After all the food on board you probably want to work that off? No? Okay maybe you just want to hear about some ways people do try to keep a bit healthy on board with their fitness. Let’s go. On the ship there is a gym with all sorts of fancy equipments, a gym room for classes and a walkin deck around deck 7.
The gym with the fancy equipment (I call it this because I am not much of a gym go-er in day to day life) should be open from 6 am in the morning. However one morning I went I was there a little bit early and there were already people in there and someone very kindly let me in. As far as the fancy equipment is concerned there are some weight machines, treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, rowing machine and some free weights. Towels and disinfectant wipes included.
Next door to the gym is a room that sometimes classes are run. I believe some of these, if not all, you have to pay for. You know the timing because it will be on your printed “What’s On” app. Most commonly offered is the Morning Stretch class.
The other option is to walk around Deck 7. This is the only deck you can walk on the outside all the way around. However there are a few problems. One, you will come to a double set of doors that must remain closed, so every time you do a lap you need to open and close the doors. I imagine for those who were joggers this would be extremely frustrating. Two, one section of Deck 7 is a smoker’s section. Three, part of the deck is often closed on Port Days.
Now after all that time to relax or do things?
Want to relax by the pool? On the positive side there are four pools (for one of those pools I am using the term loosely) spread throughout the ship. Two on the Lido deck. One is quite deep, over 2m, for even and adult.
If you go just past the Lido deck and above there is the children’s water park and the entrance to the water slides. It can be very windy up there as it’s Deck 15. Again stairs to get both places. There are two water slides and the staff are always very concerned with safety, telling people off that they must have their legs and arms crossed as they come down the slide.
If you are an adult and want to visit the over 18’s area Oasis there is a small pool and several spas. The Oasis is split into two levels with the lounge chairs and bar on top and the pool sort of under it in the middle. If you have mobility issues of any kind it will be hard to climb down the steps and then up the steps into or out of the pool. Plenty of bench seating near the pool, though if you’d like a lounge chair they can fill up quickly.
The last “pool” is in the Serenity section of the boat. It is about the size of a dinner table and two inches deep of water. So more a pool if you want to get your feet wet. I didn’t see anyone in this pool in my time on the ship. Most people used the Serenity lounge chairs because they had a shade cloth to read or relax. There’s no bar or food making it the perfect place to just unwind. I found it lovely for a bit of peace and quiet. Again the only issue is you have to climb stairs to get to it.
After a hard day of realxing you probably need a drink to go with that right? Part four coming up where I will talk a bit about the bars.
Until next time,
